The story of the You Me Bum Bum Train (YMBBT) build is a remarkable one. Everything about this cult theatre show is closely guarded, but what can be shared is that the production value was exceptional, and the critically acclaimed immersive experience was delivered under extraordinarily tight timescales.
Gemco was tasked with delivering the entire build in under three weeks and completing a full strip-out in just two weeks, returning the Shaftesbury Avenue building to EDGE, the property owners. This demanded exceptional adaptability, speed, and precision from everyone involved.
It’s also a story of sustainability. Sixty percent of the materials used in the build were reclaimed from Gemco’s upcycle store, having previously been part of other projects. When the show closed, all materials; metal, timber, plasterboard, and flooring were fully recycled, with nothing sent to landfill.
YMBBT is an arts-led, community organisation with a mission to bring people together, provide training opportunities, and raise funds for charities. In this run alone, the production raised over £1 million for charitable causes, including War Child UK and Raise Your Hands.
Free tickets were distributed to individuals facing terminal illness, cancer patients and their carers, people receiving job seekers’ allowance, those experiencing hardship, and unsung heroes in the community. Gemco also shared complimentary tickets with members of its own supply chain, reflecting the collaborative spirit of the project.
A truly remarkable project all round!!!
